To date, I have supervised the instruction of ECE4530 three times. (The lab
has been taught by Mrs. Clinton Eads, and Roger Perkins, PhD students, on
all occasions).
I have significantly modified the lab course every time it has been offered.
 |
In 1998, I based the lab course entirely on simulation via Matlab
on a digital computer. This was done out of necessity since the control
lab I inherited had no devices to control. I wrote a proposal to NSF
for new lab equipment, but this proposal was declined.

In 1999, I modified the lab course to include simulations on a GP-6
analog computer. While this is still simulation, it is one step closer
to a real control design. I re-wrote the proposal to NSF (with the
help of Dr. D. Schmidt), and this time we were successful. |
 |
In 2000, I re-wrote the entire lab reader to use the new lab
equipment purchased with the NSF grant monies. This course
has been very well received by the students, and has resulted in
significantly better learning. See the “Documentation of Research”
section of this dossier for more information regarding the NSF proposal
and the ASEE paper which resulted from it.

I typeset the lab reader.
The reader has been made available on the internet for other faculty
to use. |
